South Dakota permits a noncommercial registered agent, including an eligible individual, or a commercial registered agent registered with the Secretary. The agent must maintain an actual South Dakota street address for service; commercial agents use a state registration number and agent/office data are public.
South Dakota agent changes: forms and fees
A Statement of Change of Registered Office or Registered Agent is $10 for a domestic or foreign LLC under the published schedule; corporation amounts are in the corporation fee table. File online or use the current form at https://sdsos.gov/Business-Services/corporations/corporate-forms/business-corporations.aspx and verify the record.
Resignation, notice, and effective dates
South Dakota provides a Statement of Resignation of Registered Agent for commercial or noncommercial agents, with no fee listed for commercial-agent resignation in the published schedule. The resignation becomes effective under statute after required notice; the entity must appoint a successor to avoid delinquency or dissolution.
Consequences of a missing agent or address
An entity without a qualifying South Dakota agent or office risks failed service, default, delinquency, inability to obtain good standing, and administrative dissolution. The Secretary may have limited statutory service mechanisms, but those do not replace the continuing registered-agent requirement.

Keep the accepted filing and confirm the agent or service address shown for the business. Arrange forwarding of legal notices during the change, and check which contact information will be public before supplying a home address.
